People literally think (subconsciously) that giant sums of money or other such status symbols will make them live forever. They'd never admit to specifically that, but if you asked them what they thought the marginal utility of money after $5 million was, they'd probably go into some rant about their "legacy" or "life extension technology."

Whatever life is about, it's not striving. Because you don't even need to strive to get what a striver lifestyle can give you.

The only thing you can really improve is quality of life, and once you've escaped starvation, additonal quantity of life is really hard to get, a billion dollars doesn't actually mean you live to 1000 years old or anything like that. the key to tquality of life is intangibles. Trying to 'up your number' is literally a retard way of life.

Actually you become happier and happier with more money up until $110M where it plateaus completely

science has proven this is not the case.

marginal happiness difference drops off steeply after like 100k.

once you're "comfortable," it really stops mattering as much as you think it does

It drops off but it doesn't stop.

There's still a difference between 100k and 1M and 10M but there's literally zero difference between ~100M and 30B.

There's no difference between an ordinary millionaire and someone like Bezos who's transforming the global economy and building spacecraft? Whatever you say.

any happiness difference there is because of Bezos' satisfaction with his job, not the money

makes sense to me what you are saying. people know that 500 dollars a month or so means you escape starvation. so they extend that to all money, as if that same kind of benefit, ie gift of life vs withering away till death, is the same thing that will continue with each marginal dollar. people think linearly all the time like that, and then when they experience its not like that, they become confused and lost.

Good OP. Interestingly, the more you improve your intangible happiness and well-being, the more utility you can get out of greater wealth, because among other things you can be more generous.
