If vegetarians really believed "meat is murder", well, we are murdering ~billions of chickens and cows every year, and you do nothing?
That's pretty immoral sounding to me.
Same thing as someone who believes abortion is murder. They don't really believe that, because if someone gets murdered, you do something about it, you don't whine and then just go back to your candy crush hawaiian punch edition. Being a vegetarian, like being pro-life, is just another low-cost way to feel better than someone else. It's a status game.
