Birds benefit from change of perspective are more cunning because cognitive mapping of physical space seems to overlap some brain function that has to do with elusiveness or sensitivity to trickery. Horses WAY more sensitive and in particular they are highly empathic and for this reason seem able to demonstrate a peculiar, almost ethical awareness. I've never looked into a birds eyes and thought I was looking at a rare intelligence, but I've had this distinct impression from a horse's gaze- not all horses, but there have been a handful which did things at horse shows or around the barn that truly impressed me and quite spooked me out for how unbelievably intelligent and thoughtful the horse seemed for having done it.
