Since she spent 7 years at the subsidiary and since it's the closest office to our house, she goes there to work some days and still goes to all their company events. Also for some background, I worked there as a business analyst after I graduated law school because I initially didn't want to practice law.

So, I was talking to the president of the subsidiary and he was complaining about the state income tax deduction going away. I repped the HR lady's husband for an employment case a few years ago so I know he makes in the mid 300K range for salary (she has a big mouth - think Pam from Archer). He is a nice guy but thinks he is hot shit because he has a C-level job and wears a Rolex submariner. So I told him he should prepay his state taxes for next year before December 31 to save some tax liability. It is still debatable whether that will work, but there is no real downside.

He basically told me, well I'll ask my CPA, but it's not really a problem you need to worry about anyways (implying that my income is too low to worry about it). I told him I paid 560K in taxes this year, so it was a big deal to me. He then goes "you made 560k this year?". I said no, I paid 560K in taxes. He literally shut the fuck up and didn't know what to say. It was kind of funny because I think his perception of me was some washed out lawyer who couldn't get a job and was forced to hang his own shingle. I don't think he realizes I've repped like 50 people at his company for various cases.

I think part of the problem is that many people finish law school with like 100-200K in loans and real estate is so expensive now the barrier to entry is crazy. But remember this dude was probably make mid 100's in the 90s and bought his 5 bedroom house house for like 300K in 1994. Considering he has little or no mortgage and no student loans, mid 300's leaves you a lot of extra money. Also, the Las Virginas School District (where we live) is just as good as private school. The entire area is UMC or rich. So he doesn't have to pay much to have his kids.

Besides XO (where I really just post it to get people interested/motivated to going solo) I don't tell people how much I make. I don't want people hitting me up for money. My mom knows and she asked me to borrow 17K to pay off a credit card her husband didn't know about. He makes like 500k/year but she spends like a teenager. Even my paralegals have no idea the extent of how much business we do.
