Have learned to mimic normal responses (or the responses most advantageous) over the years, including by progressively learning to move muscles around my eyes in sequence during a smile. That said, people who are very adept at others can sometimes sense the absence of microexpressions - it unnerves them, but either they can't put their finger on it, or revealing what they've seen would give away too much about their ability (which I know about already for I am watching them).
