Wife trying to arbitrage the nanny market

She is refusing to pay the going rate for nannies out of principle and we have had two nannies turn us down already because of our low ball hourly rate. Meanwhile she starts work next week and we have no child care. Odds are I am going to be paying to fly my parents out last minute because of this.

I do think childcare is overpriced and expensive, but that’s just the nature of the market. The workers themselves are often underpaid and overworked, which is what accounts for high staff turnover at daycare centers and underpaid nanny situations, particularly when it’s an infant.
What you want to do in this situation is treat the nanny well and pay her well so she is happier and won’t leave. A nanny quitting without warning happens all the time and people are left scrambling and taking vacation days to cover last minute and hire another shitty nanny. |
