How are you configuring the storage? I feel like unless you're planning to mirror the two SSDs, you could stick with just one for the OS and maybe frequently-used programs, and then use the HDDs for media, etc.
My other criticisms are that I don't understand the point of a $300 chassis, Dell monitors are good but a bit overpriced, and unless I'm missing something, you left out wifi/bluetooth. |

You don't need a ton of CPU on a NAS. And while you do need a decent amount of memory, something like 32GB of DDR4 ECC ought to be plenty.

this machine will have decent processing power and a FUCK TON of RAM so that I'm not relying on SWAP space as much. Right now, I am using 11.1GB of the 16GB available RAM I have. I am almost always maxed out on RAM, which slows shit down.
also, one of the biggest problems I have is backing up data. I use duplicity to automate backups to AWS every other day. The amount of processing that occurs is massive given that every single file I want to back up has to be checked for changes. |
