people were saying a year ago, two years ago, etc. that not only would the market not continue to go up, it was overdue for a correction.

anyone who acted on that advice has missed out bigly.

the market will correct, but who the fuck knows when. just keep to your investment strategy. you cannot time the market.

i don't get what you mean. do you mean you should invest the same money after you have paid taxes on it? you will then pay taxes on dividends, etc., as it grows and then on the realized gains when you withdraw it. you are also going to pay income tax and not capital gains tax if you use after-tax money, which likely is higher.

why not shield it from taxes now and get the benefit of the deduction? moreover, you are much more likely to be in a lower tax bracket when you retire than you are in now, unless you work some poor shitjob.

and if he is in a low-paying shit job, could be cr to do a roth 401k if his employer offers it.

interestingly, i never had that option until i came to biglaw, but i don't think at my salary doing the roth 401k makes sense. i do max backdoor roths for my wife and me, though.

u can't time the market like this, just keep slow and steady. In the future, if it corrects to say >10% drop, then you just start plowing assets in. But it's stupid to try to jump on the elevator before it even starts to fall

Don't throw away the 24-35% tax savings from a 401k. If you fear a crash, just invest in something safe. Your 401k should have some cash like options.

Cop instant savings today from doing 401k. They'll continue to fuck around with future tax rates for next 30 years but at least you'll not have paid taxes today on that money

Bad idea. If you think a crash is coming, put your $$ in short term corporate debt, a vangaurd bond fund, or something of that nature.

notice it took like 35+ years for taxes to get overhauled, through multiple periods of one party rule and divisiveness and three serious booms and busts

huge tax hikes aren't written in stone.
