1. I hate that someone mentioned DMX in this thread. As a 90s hip hop fan I agree though (young Jay-Z, Nas, tribe, big L, big pun, biggie, wu, etc)
2. NYC certainly isn’t the center of hip hop today. NYC rap is stale (with some exceptions eg joey badass). Either the west coast (Kendrick Lamar) or (tragically) the mumbling, trapping south has the juice

jam master jay/slick rick/doug e fresh (how old are you?)
busta rhymes (again debatable but he’s in nobody’s pantheon)
odb (lmao)
dmx (rudimentary rhymes and barking)
