It is driven by irrational fear and greed. 5) The IQ gap can be explained almost solely by genetics and this gap explains a lot of societal issues. 6) Democracy itself is largely a bad idea. Most voters are clueless and uninformed and the founders were rightly worried about mob rule. 7) Our modern consumer society is breeding misery and runs counter to everything we know about what constitutes a good life and fostering happiness.

MBAs exist in part precisely because the material isn’t hard, which leads to employers treating credentials as a proxy for intelligence, but in principle kids are still capable of learning this material without having to do second degrees. i am all for the idea of a liberal arts education but, especially for non-elite kids, it needs to be anchored in some sort of constructive training. |

but there are rapidly diminishing returns for kids at lesser schools who are loading up on literature just because they find other subjects "boring" or because they "don't like math" or something. at that point it's no longer about exposure or "culturing". |

You're talking about kids that had a job lined up from birth. They were never intended to take average Joe and prepare them to get a job.
What is really worse is that colleges actually encourage you to major in this bullshit (via grade inflation for those subjects relative to STEM subjects) because it is cheap for them. Professors are cheap, there's no lab equipment to buy, etc. Then you end up with those students graduating with a ton of non-dischargeable debt, no career prospects and the college isn't on the hook at all. |

You just occasionally fire a bunch of people with old skills, hire new people with "new" skills for less (either out of internships or via H1Bs). You can even force the old workers to train in the new ones (in exchange for small severance). I think this is b/c the Overton window is primarily restricted by leftist thinking / inability to discuss or engage these topics, and it's actually a mainstream leftist belief that we are tragically imprisoning far too many people (although they're mostly focused on the disparate racial effects of this). |

Look at the former president of Harvard losing his job due to a media uproar over his fact-based and innocuous comments. He basically said men are intrinsically more interested in technical/engineering topics on average, they are more willing to sacrifice their personal lives for career success, and more men have high-level math ability (six times as many boys score over 700 on the math SAT or something close to that). It shouldn't come as a surprise that there are more male physics and engineering professors given these facts. It was all over the news, with outlets wrongly stating he said boys are better than girls at math.
Number 6 should probably be deleted, but it is remarkable to me that there isn't more of an uproar about the fact that we are paying $80K a year to house prisoners for years that have relatively minor, non-violent offenses. |
