UTexas med school = $20k/ year.

4 years = $80,000

Texas cost of living will drain $30k/year from his pot.

He should earn about 7% a year from his pot.

So--

At end of year 1: $300k - $20k - $30k + $21k = $271,000 left.

At end of year 2: $271k - $20k - $30k + $19k = $250,000 left.

At end of year 3: $250k - $20k - $30k + $17k = $219,000 left.

At end of year 4: $219k - $20k - $30k + $15k = $184,000 left.

So, when he finished med school, he will still h ave $180k in the bank and an MD. Will be able to cover cost of living the next 4 years while doing internship / residency with his salary, while his nut grows.

AT the end of 8 years = back up to $241k with 7% a year gains. And he's making $350k a year.

Sounds like he hates working and just wants to stay in school for awhile. I thought about doing something like this when I was in biglaw, and thought about MD because of the long schooling (which would be much better than biglaw), but then I realized it is financially retarded.

What he should be doing is investing in crypto, day trading and retire with millions or just find a fed gov jerb with pension.

Also, I dunno how good he is as a software engineer, but I know in house lawyers who got like 1MM+ in stock from working inhouse at Amazon...I'm sure engineers can easily find tech companies with insane stock options.

If he is a good tech guy, and chooses big names to work for, he can easily accrue a multi million dollar NW by the time he is 40.
