Etherscan?

So when you guys go begging for coins, do you guys give out exchange wallets, or junk wallets?

I did a MEW but without a hardware wallet. If I enter the public address on Etherscan, it shows everything in that wallet.

Did I do something wrong?

EDIT: Are you saying create a MEW when you ask others for coins?

I think that's just the way the blockchain works man. It's all public. But yeah I'm saying make a mew specifically for begging. I have like 5 mews for different tokens and contracts

That is odd. Doesn't really make sense to let everyone know your net worth like that, so you'd have to make new accounts all the time. Boomers and regular people are never going to understand this stuff. They need tellers that can look up their account numbers and a pin that they can do "1234" on.

Yeah even if you make a new account they can see your money once it interacts with your old account. If you want to keep your begging mew secret just make a fresh one each time you send the eth to your main account because once you make that transaction everyone can see your main account too. If you're worried about privacy don't use ETH. Anyone can just download the whole blockchain and trace every transaction it's only like 100 gigs or something

So if I look at the begging threads, and put the begging addresses in Etherscan, I can see which wallet(s) they then sent their begging amounts to? There is no way to really avoid this unless you send it to an exchange wallet address, which is just generated for a one-time transaction, right?

Yes. Some exchange wallets work differently but yeah you can just click the new address in etherscan and see everything in it.

You can launder it through an exchange -- i.e., you receive ETH in your public (known) wallet, send it to an exchange (e.g., Coinbase), and withdraw from that exchange to your "private" wallet. Because of the way most exchange wallets work, the exchange wallet receiving the ETH and the exchange wallet sending the ETH will be different, with nothing linking them.

Sounds good, but let's not use the term "launder" so lightly! They need to prove each element!
