Alexa has more “connectivity” with third parties. Has 75% of the market. Works well with Sonos and Spotify (google can’t do this yet)

Google has by far better ability to answer questions.

I own both by the way

I've also found Google Home to be a lot faster and more responsive. If you want to do a full home integration thing Alexa is probably better because it has more third-party support (though Google is definitely working on this), if you just want a basic voice assistant that'll also maybe control basic stuff like lights, thermostat, etc., then I'd go with Google Home.

They're about the same but the point of Google Home is that it's just sitting there on the table (or wherever). I use it for cooking a ton, getting it to set timers is pretty 180.

I never really ask it random questions, but for laziness-related stuff like asking the weather, setting times, etc., I've found that they both do the same job but Google tends to be a lot faster and sound a lot more natural (Alexa's text-to-voice sounds much more stilted). Also, I can't speak to all the models, but Google Home has much better voice recognition -- I've asked it stuff from the other side of my apartment with music playing and the shower running, and it has no problem at all, whereas you sometimes have to stand right on top of the Echo to get it to respond.

I've used both and I'd say Alexa is a much better product, especially when you consider 3rd party integrations and number of skills.

Google home is pretty sick. I have pixel + Chromecast + smartplugs so everything connects seamlessly. It's very 180. Top uses:

-making phone calls from my couch without picking up my phone

-setting alarms

-checking the weather

-"play XXX from spotify"

-"hey Google put on espn. Turn the volume up"

-"how long will it take me to get to Penn station?? Gok give me the directions."

-"hey Google, make me some coffee"

I have a regular drip coffee maker (always set to on) plugged into a smart plug and connected to my Google home/pixel. At night, I put in the grounds and water. In the morning I wake up and tell google to make me some coffee and it turns the outlet on.

75% of the shit I use Google home for is streamlining my morning routine. It's nice to read emails, dictate texts, check weather, get directions/estimate, or to read the news

Tbh this is the only use I have for a smart plug in my MFH apartment. I know people who use them for slow cookers but I'm not there yet.
