Sherman had a mixed reputation, or what the National Post called "Two Legacies".[26] Toronto Mayor John Tory said "Barry and Honey were kind, good people" and Sherman was widely praised for his philanthropic giving.[27] However, Sherman was called "a deplorable human being", by University of Ottawa law professor Amir Attaran who noted that he gouged Canadians with high drug prices: "Canadians pay more for generic drugs than almost every other country. He sought to manipulate our system to enrich himself and impoverish Canadian patients who used his drugs", he said.[27] Sherman was known to cross ethical lines and "fought as many as 100 battles at a time in court to challenge drug patents and make way for Apotex’s generic prescriptions".[27]
In 2011 the Winter children's estate sued Sherman and Royal Trust concerning the purchase of the corporate assets and brands from the Winter children's estate, alleging in court that Sherman and his partner never paid the royalties nor provided the promised equity in the businesses.[28] The cousins were seeking a 20% interest in Apotex or damages of $1 billion. Sherman responded with withdrawing millions of dollars in financial assistance to his cousins. The cousins' statement of claim contended that Sherman "had offered the financial assistance in the first place in order to make the cousins dependent on him, and to keep them from learning about their rights to the business".[29][30][31] In September 2017, an Ontario Superior Court justice ruled against the cousins saying the case was "wishful thinking, and beyond fanciful."[31][32] At the time of the judgement, a lawyer for the cousins said they would appeal, though no appeal occurred, and Sherman died a few months later under unknown circumstances.[31]
At the time of his death, Sherman was under investigation because of a fundraiser he had held for Justin Trudeau in April 2015, allegedly contrary to Canada's lobbying rules.[33] Sherman filed a lawsuit in May 2016, attempting to quash the investigation. "There is basis to conclude that Mr. Sherman is in breach of...the Lobbyists’ Code of Conduct as a consequence of his involvement in the organization of a fundraising event for the (Liberal Party)," according to Phil McIntosh, director of investigations at the Office of the Lobby Commissioner. If that had been proven, Sherman would have been banned from lobbying for five years.[34]
A partial draft of his unpublished memoir, called Legacy of Thoughts, was submitted as part of Sherman’s motion for summary judgment in a lawsuit brought by his orphaned cousins. He described the manuscript as his observations on philosophy, Canadian politics and the pharmaceutical industry.[35] Sherman did not believe in God, free will, altruism or morality.[27] "I find no inconsistency in holding intellectually that life has no meaning, while at the same time being highly motivated to survive and to achieve", he once said.[27]

ljl at this "philanthropist"
An exhaustive list of their charity work is near-impossible. One of their largest documented donations was $50 million to the United Jewish Appeal. But speaking to the Star, the group said they’ve yet to tally all the Sherman donations – a mix of capital, annual, and foundation gifts.
They were major benefactors of the Simon Wiesenthal Center’s Museum of Tolerance in Jerusalem, spokesperson Avital Borisovsky wrote in an email. But he declined to share the exact figure the Shermans donated.

DBG, rate the prestige of this Canadian jew in getting Universities to name their professional schools after him
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seymour_Schulich#Philanthropy
Schulich has donated funds to numerous Canadian universities including York[4] (Schulich School of Business), Western Ontario (Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry),[5] Calgary (Schulich School of Engineering),[6] Dalhousie (Schulich School of Law),[7] McGill (Schulich School of Music),[8] and Nipissing (Schulich School of Education).[9] The first and largest donation that was made was to the Schulich School of Business at York University. All degrees issued by the Schulich School of Business now bear the signature of Seymour Schulich. His philanthropy also extends beyond universities, to the Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre (Schulich Heart Centre)[10] in Toronto, and outside Canada to the University of Nevada, Reno (Schulich Lecture Hall) and Technion – Israel Institute of Technology.[11]
On October 15, 2009, Schulich officially presented a donation in the amount of $20 million to Dalhousie University's Law School; in doing so, the Law School has now been renamed the Schulich School of Law.[12]
On October 14, 2011, Schulich announced a $100 million scholarship program targeting students entering the science, technology, engineering and math fields (STEM) in Canada and Israel. This gift is being co-administered by UJA Federation of Greater Toronto and the Schulich Foundation.[13] The program is called Schulich Leader Scholarships, the largest undergraduate STEM scholarship opportunity in each country.[14]
