He moved back to his hometown (a nice Chicago suburb) and reconnected with an old friend who works as a financial advisor. This friend had opened an Edward Jones or similar sort of franchise financial planning office and has like four or five employees. He wanted someone to manage the "legal stuff" so he hired my buddy at $200k per year. He must do 4 hours of actual work per week. On an average week, he'll do one project.
