I stayed at the Nautilus last time and felt it was a reasonable value, but it's still priced like a 5-star and while nice, the rooms are small. Morning, I'd go for a slow, long run through the neighborhoods--early, while families were still tucked tight in beds and it's dark enough that you can get pretty close to a house. I'd come back to the rental by around 7 and do some strength exercises for a few hours, floor work mostly. It was above a Vietnamese kitchen and you could smell the spices and cooking oil already by that time, hear the chatter of the crew coming in to prepare for the lunch rush, their easy conversation accented with the din of dishes clanging and the occasional crowing of a cock. 'Round lunch time I'd throw on the denim and head to the beach. There was a spot near where Allison Park meets the sand that you could tuck away into so you could observe the crowds without drawing too much attention. I'd bring my red notebook; spent hours down there, sweating furious, watching, dipping into fitful sleep with those goddamn dreams then back to life from the bell of a passing bicycle or the change of light against my eyes as a group of girls walked by. They'd never notice me. Eventually I'd return to the apartment, wash up, get ready to hit the street for the night. Stetson was my scent.
