Anything where a) people can convert into and out of and b) where there are obvious internal groups that are vastly different (Ethiopian Jews, Ashkenazi, Sephardic, Indian Jews, etc.) and aren't even the same race isn't actually a race. The reality is that everyone here is focusing on Ashkenazi Jews because pretty much everyone here has some Ashkenazi heritage (unless they're Azn), but Ashkenazi Jews aren't the totality of Judaism or the real definition of Judaism. They're just a subset of a larger group that is pretty diverse.

I used hook nose as an example of a typical jewish trait. yes, some jews don't have a hook nose and yes, some non-jews have hook noses. Clearly jews descended from people who at one point were not jews, so any physical traits common to jews will surely show up in other ethnic groups. And yes, you are right that jews have intermarried though historically much less so than today.

The "purest" Jews that lived in shtetls and didn't integrate died in huge numbers during WW2. If you look at where the shtetls were and what the Nazis grabbed first, you'll notice complete overlap. After Communism, the Jewish community got split up and intermarriage was massive (actually, it was significant even during Catherine the Great, who took significant steps to "strongly encourage" the Jews to integrate). I agree that many Russian Jews can trace genetics to other Central European places, but so can many Russians that were merchants (including in my family, we had people that intermarried into Italian and Greek families, as well as German and Baltic states). The point is that heavily mixed peoples make bad candidates for labels as ethnicities. By the way, a lot of Slavs are mixed too. Take a trip to Odessa or Crimea and look around and notice the massive amount of Turkish blood in people who will identify as Slavs.

What I can say is that I was reading that the Haredi Jews in particular are solid candidates to be defined as an ethnicity. They have had exceedingly little intermarriage, and a well-defined uniform culture and language.

Except, they did intermarry at various points unless they were shtetl Jews. Because ultimately, Euro society was class and profession-based and marriage and if you were middle or upper-class merchants, for example, then you were going to marry within that class. Same reason Donald Trump's kids married a bunch of Jews.

The other thing is look at the live science article I linked you above. The actual genetic studies show there was a huge amount of intermarriage, including into the Jewish community (especially men marrying women). I suspect when Jewish women married out they tended to convert to the husband's religion (so their offspring wouldn't be identified as a Jew to be studied), btw, so that's my theory for why it seems to be uneven.

It's terrifying for me specifically because they are the worst group, and I've noticed with the springing up of large communities of these people in towns like Lakewood, NJ, a lot of people associate all Jews with Haredi, who are only ever in the news for being criminals. I've had uncomfortable conversations with goyim who clearly and justifiably have negative feelings toward haredi and tried to explain that they aren't representative of all jews.
