if anyone here is superstitious: last night my wife and I went out for dinner. we parked in a garage. when we came back from dinner, what was parked next to us?

A Subaru Outback. I looked through the rear tinted window and gazed at the Outback's spacious back row of seats, remarking to my wife that this is more room than a CR-V. She told me to stop being a creep and looking into other people's cars.

But then we saw a CX-5 on the road on our way back home.

If you intend on taking this much pleasure in your car, why don't you get something nicer? Are you non-rich or something? Plz advise

I am non-rich. The $26,000 MSRP of a Honda CR-V LX 4WD represents like 15% of our pretax household income. Even if I were rich, it doesn't seem like spending a lot of money on a car is credited.

We view our cars as tools, not toys.

especially if what you want/need is a compact suv. they are all pretty boring.

why are they boring? we're perfectly happy with our Toyota Camry (except for my wife wanting more space), and if a Camry isn't "boring" for us why would a CR-V be boring? CR-V is larger!

I don't need my car to be "fun to drive" - my car is a tool, not my hobby. My hobby is poasting on AutoAdmit.

agreed, so if you accept that your needs call for a compact suv, then you are purchasing a car that is not fun to drive and there is no reason to unnecessarily spend extra on a luxury version of it.

plus the places I drive the car to, many of them are very fun. I don't need the drive to be fun, though in many cases the drive IS fun because we're driving though someplace new or cool.

my wife and I rented the Rav4 on a vacation several years ago. we had a blast on that vacation even though our car was "boring" according to internet lawyers

I honestly don't know how you could have enjoyed yourself zipping around in a rav4.

I hope I never become as broken as you, unable to enjoy the simple pleasure of seeing new places and experiencing new things by driving around in a Rav4

i'm taking a trip to florida in april and am renting a midsize sedan. I'll let you know how it goes. The car might ruin the whole trip for me. If it's really bad, I might just yell at my kids the whole time.

I was looking at the redesigned 2018 CR-V today online, and the EX seems like the best value. It has all the features of the other two premium trims except leather seats, and is only a few thousand more than the LX.

What about the Subaru Outback, where 4WD comes standard on all vehicles? This is not true of the CR-V.

Many people people do that. The only benefit would be that, if your forget your license plate #, you can still pick out your CR-V among hundreds of others in the Costco parking lot.
