Mayor Bloomberg spent a lot of time and money funding studies and getting the word out about how the market for illegal guns functions in NYC. Something like 80% of the guns used in violent crimes in NYC were purchased in Virginia or NC. People buy entire arsenals legally, and eventually through private sales, they end up in the hands of criminals and gangs.
One thing I sort of agree with conservatives on is that the local gun control restrictions and the modest restrictions currently being debated won't do all that much (although I still believe they are worth pursuing). We could drastically limit gun crime but it would require far more stricter measures that include severely limiting the production of guns and ammunition. |

I have no problem with nationwide mandatory background checks, but I will not agree to a single inch in commonsense gun regulation until the right to private gun ownership is unassailable everywhere in the country. Only when the right to own and carry firearms is jammed down the fucking throat of Mayor DeBlasio, then will I feel comfortable enough that the right is secure to allow for commonsense regulation. These shithead liberals think that compromise is only restricting guns not taking them away.
Compromise is I will agree to background checks as long as carry conceal is legal in every single state and city if you pass a test that is comparable to the drivers license test. People with concealed carry licenses commit fewer crimes than just about anybody. The fake handwringing about carry concealed reciprocity shows that the left is not on board with a compromise that involves give-and-take, they want to take but they're willing to take a little less right now. |
