OP is mfcr. it's easy or at least not that hard to make $150k-200k in all kinds of law subgroups. biglaw, sure of course, but also most everything else from criminal law to T&E with 12-18 months of experience.
the problem is most people who got o LS don't really like law, and so they're miserable or lazy or can't get it together to establish a niche and cop $$$$$ in their practice area.
me personally i'm still in biglaw and made $400k last year but i know for a FACT if my firm fired me tomorrow i could make $325k as a solo. and it's because i like what i do and i'm good at it. that's the difference. |

if you cop T14 you'll basically never make less than $125k in your life so long as you don't fuck up horribly. but whether you like it or at least like it compared to other jobs is a separate question, as you say. the best thing is to get some real world experience and see what they do first hand but if you're already working that may not be realistic.
the more you enjoy introverted, logical, organized, problem solving the more you'll probably like law but that is an abstract thought experiment and people who look into that mirror tend to see what they want to see. cop a 170+ on one of your first 5 LSAT practice tests (timed, not no fake ass bullshit telling yourself "oh yeah i see how that's right i'm sure i'll get that Q if i see it on test day") and we'll talk. elsewise probably just stick with whatever you got goin on right now, no offense. |

I hate being a lawyer. Truly hate it. But the biglaw money was nice and now, as a solo, I make $200k+ per year ($220k last year) with no boss and work from home whenever I want. If I could figure out another business that would allow me to do that, I'd jump ship. There just aren't t many similar opportunities.
When I see loser insurance defense lawyers, stressed out and working 60 hours a week dealing with all the bullshit of being a lawyer, all for $80k, it absolutely blows my mind. I would never practice law for less than $200k.
Why do these losers do it? I woukd rather make $80k as a chill as fuck car salesman. |
