I still dont understand how it gets the same mpg. Like how does a bigger engine with a heavier car (like the forester) still get 33 mpg hwy?

fraudlies. subaru 100% lies about the mpg. any newer wrx owner will tell you the computer in the car reporting the mpg on the infotainment screen is way higher than if you calculate it yourself.

A bigger engine works with gearing to turn lower rpms at highway speeds, generally is a more efficient operating range. At highway speeds drag coefficient and rolling resistance are more important than weight in determining MPG. hth

which subaru? if it's just between those 2 i'd go for a highlander. The Explorer looks more like a truck but is every bit the crossover that the highlander is just not as good.

I've had a Forrester. Explorer is definitely more of a truck than the Forrester. My concern with Fords is that they are not as reliable as jap cars.

Explorer is boxy like a truck but is a unibody just like a sedan or crossover. That's why I say you don't get any extra capabilities with an Explorer and less reliability than a toyota or subaru.

If you want a truck style SUV, go with a 4runner.

Wait until the calendar year changes and buy a prior model year RX350 instead of the Highlander. We bought my wife's RX350L AWD for the same price as a Highlander Platinum @ 0% for 60 months.

Good idea. I've never been all that impressed by Lexus but it will be reliable and have more amenities than a bare bones Subaru.

They're completely fine cars for a long term, durable appliance. My wife keeps her car for 10+years/100k+ miles so we specifically didn't want a hybrid, anything turbo charged, etc. and the 3.5L V6 riding on essentially a Camry platform is about as solid as it gets.

When I need a change from my loud, intense car driving her Lexus is nice place to be. It's comfortable, quiet, moves well enough in traffic. I don't think we really needed that super tiny 3rd row, but Lexus must have had a hard time moving them because they had more incentives on it and despite a higher MSRP sold for less than the non-L RX. It's come in handy about 3x so far when we had bigger groups that needed to go in one car for a short trip.

I've thought about the outback but prefer the Forrester for more interior room. I don't know anything about the ascent except that it blurs the line between the other two and I don't understand why one is better than the other. Do any of these have updated shit inside? My Forrester has a few dials and a stereo that sounds deliberately muffled.

agree 100% re: the stereo. it seems like they actually tried to make it sound like shit.

Crosstrex sucks. Have one. The truck is narrow as fuck. The idiots bent it in with the lights in the rear cutting off half the width of trunk space. It’s less than a sedan
