The frequencies, timing, and sounds draw on the nostalgia of that brief period of Pax Americana in the 80s and 90s marked by shopping malls, arcades, bike rides, and playing in the street. It's that slice of time that feels warm and friendly -- after all, it fits snugly between the anxiety of the Cold War and the Post 9/11, smart phone, #MeToo hellscape in which we now find ourselves. At least we find ourselves here physically. We don't even consider it as a musical style. It 's an hipster thing created by 20 years old teenagers who don't know anything about music.
