I send the partner the draft I had finished and was getting ready to go home. Within minutes he calls me and goes through it paragraph by paragraph with me at 3 in the morning, keeping me there until 4, when we sent it to the partner above us (so it wasn't even a client draft). I had just started at the firm and as it turns out I'd lucked into getting initially assigned to a partner who everyone later warned me was by far the biggest neurotic disaster in the entire firm. Also, he gave everyone who worked for him bad reviews, had no business of his own, and was generally one of the nastiest people to be around I've ever met as an adult. I had a similar experience with a woman at some point, but at least she was sort of nice and she didn't actively shit on every associate who worked for her. I know some poor souls who have managed to scrape out a decent biglaw career just by working for her (and the rainmaker above her). Granted they live a miserable existence, but they've made it to midlevel going on senior associate status without needing to jump around.
