I only started lifting regularly in July. I think I started out benching 95 or something sad like that.

So I've been lucky enough to make some great progress. But my upper arm circumference is still only about 14.5 inches. Is this normal?

How many reps? What bi and tri exercises are you doing? That's a meaningful jump brother from 95 to 225 in a 8 months.

You need to up the volume (and probably go down on weight). Also, I assume your doing bi and tri workouts.

Edit: Also impressive strength jump. I thought you were doing fewer reps at 225.

I don't have a very complicated program. I also do pull ups, curls, incline bench, push ups, and this exercise where i stretch my arms in various directions while holding dumbbells.

Are you fueling your body properly? Are you fucking up your routine by destroying your muscle with like a run after lifting?

I eat roughly 200 grams of protein per day. Little to no sugar or other shitcarbs. At least 10 servings of fruits and vegetables per day. Maybe 11% body fat.

I don't run, but I do walk about an hour a day, to relax as well as for exercise.

Mix it up. One week 3 x 10, then 4 x 5, then a pyramid of 10, 8, 6, ,4.

But I think your goals are misguided. I don’t know what in your mind “big arms” are. At one point I benched 365 and did preacher curls with 45’s but no one would have been impressed with the shape of my biceps; I just don’t have the genetics. But I was strong as fuck and I never measured the size of my arms. Your goals should be to bench 3 plates. The size will come as you add strength.

Thanks for your advice bro. Is there a direct link between lifting capacity and arm size? Is it as simple as just lifting heavier and heavier weight?

I believe it. It’s not that impressive frankly. Now going 225 to 355 in 8 more months would be unbelievable. Normal male bodies are designed to be able to lift 225 6 times after moderate training.

Weight has been pretty consistent at a little over 200. In all fairness I did lots of push ups, sometimes a fee hundred a day, before I started lifting, but obviously that's not as good for building muscle.

Upper arm circumference was probably around 13 inches when I started. I've also gotten much better definition. But it's definition of small arms.
