also that sweet smell that lingers for years and years in those new homes are VOCs from formaldehyde and other carcinogens in the pressboard, cabinetry, and insulation. it takes at least $250/sq ft to build without those shoddy framing and shell materials. corporate builders putting up mcmansions @ $100/sq ft are cutting corners af even at economies of scale. |

The end result: massive student loans, massive mortgage payment, and job prospects below what the person thought they would have 5 years later. |

I got very lucky with timing and don't attribute it to anything but luck, but it's been good for me. I know it can end at any time. |
