i saw an article a while ago about how wal-mart's relationship with chinese manufacturers really got going in 1992-1993. for example, when jurassic park became a megahit, there was a shortage of cheap JP merchandise that chinese suppliers successfully rushed to fill, and wal-mart was very impressed, since those same suppliers had crippling problems just five years earlier in the late-80's. but by the early-mid 90's, they had gotten their shit together, and were ready to be plugged into the "just in time" model emerging with the aid of computers.

yeah, it was a long road they traveled to become the shithole of the world they are today. the thing is, they seem almost at the self-defeating limit w/ their ROCK BOTTOM prices strategy.

you can get a vacuum at walmart for $9, but it is a piece of crap that will not work in 6 months, IME.
