Is this from memory of the Lion King when you saw it 20 years ago? I was excited to watch it with my daughter, but I almost wanted to apologize to her in the middle of it and offer to put on Moana, which we saw the week prior. Lion King is pretty dull in comparison, and Moana's soundtrack is way better. I wanted to like the classic and non-Hamilton one more, but I didn't.

this isn't true. like i said above, Be Prepared I think is a special scene and song. It accomplishes a lot. You learn about Scar's plot, get a glimpse into how devious he is, and he enlists the help of the hyenas.

It's dramatic and entertaining and also accomplishes some pretty significant character and plot development.

Aside from that, and this is not a knock on Lion King, I think the music from Moana is much better.

fwiw, i didn't like any of the pixar movies from when i was a child (toy story, etc.)

i think i prefer traditional hand drawn cartoons and the music was better in these movies from the late 80s/90s. this is traditionally considered the "golden age" for disney movies before computer animation took over

i also liked little mermaid

it's called "disney renaissance", not golden age

http://disney.wikia.com/wiki/Disney_Renaissance

The Disney Renaissance refers to an era beginning roughly in 1989 and ending in 1999 during which Walt Disney Animation Studios returned to making more musical animated films that were mostly based on well-known stories, and it allowed Disney's animated films to become powerhouse successes at the domestic and foreign box office; making much more profit than most of the other Disney films of the past eras.

i used to watch pocahontas all the time. found the music catchy

the other two i watched much less often, although recently rewatched hunchback - it has a depressing quality to it that i appreciate (the real story was much sadder than what disney made it out to be)

i've started Moana twice but didn't get through it. Lion King is one of the all-time greats

isn't Moana supposed to be a girly girl's movie and Lion King a straight boy's movie

Lion King loses automatically for the absolute horrible casting of Matthew Broderick as adult Simba

i realized that today for the first time while watching with a sick 3 year old.

They really make Simba a complete beta cuck. He subsists on bugs, his gf can beat him up, he's very nearly bested in combat by scar who earlier in the film acknowledges he is weak af, he's voiced by matthew broderick etc.

Watched it a few months ago w my kids after not having seen in in like 20+ years. Was loling HARD at beta Simba's effeminate whiny voice. Especially compared to Mufasa.
