350k in house job in coastal CA city

Date: February 22nd, 2018 12:50 AM Author: soul-stirring chrome alpha goyim one of santa barbara, san diego, or laguna beach. would i be an idiot to turn this down? the alternative would be not to move from my current city, where my wife and i have established a good social circle, and stop plans to try going solo with the hope of pulling at least 300k per year (which i'm reasonably confident i can do after a year of ramp up). our current city is expensive though (SF or LA), and the alternative if i dont accept the job offer is to stay here and continue to try to make it. wife can transfer to whatever city and keep her job. we're renting now b/c the idea of buying a house when quitting my job to go solo is a bit scary - so taking this job offer would shortcut everything and allow us to buy a house in the next 6 months. on the other hand, 350k for a senior level in-house gig where i would oversee a team and would place me closer in line to being qualified for a GC (of a smaller shop) or a deputy GC (of a larger shop) is interesting as well. part of the attraction here is the "fuck you" i can give to my current boss by leaving for a competitor, the prestige of the title and managerial position, and of course the guarantee of money coming in. in this gig, i could immediately buy a decent home rather than waiting for 2 years to see how the solo pursuit plays out. |

Solo work just sounds like you gotta hustle and take that risk to make it when in house is easy and $350k puts in high enough position to make $500k long term there or somewhere else.
Just depends if you want to work hard or not to make it. If you’re ok working hard then go solo.

This is such a dilemma bc in-house life does tend to be more stable and this particular gig would be pretty senior. But I'm still itching to hit a home run and make tons of money. In house life is equivalent to a middle middle class life only. |
