No. It will be Ariana Grande / Cardi B style stuff now all the way down the toilet. Girls singing and rapping about their pussies and getting gaped by BBC, grunting and cumming into the mic. Pop starlets will show their labia on social media, covered in sperm.

That stuff makes billions and powerful interests benefit in other ways too.

Pop culture will eventually be straight-up porn, until or unless there is a revolution or islamic take over.

no. because you really can't play it any better than van halen, page, rhoads, angus young, etc without sounding like a copycat. the guitar nerds like yngwie and vai proved what happens when you take it too far.

Does seem like the genre has exhausted itself. I rarely hear rock music today that is better than the typical fare from the 60s, 70s, or 80s

There's a ton of great indie rock, indie music being put out, but not "rock rock", we live in the shadows of giants.

The same thing happened in science...it's unlikely someone is going to "discover" gravity again.

I dont doubt that, but its been completely driven out of the mainstream spotlight and takes effort to find. Grunge was last organic rock movement to find mainatream success.

There's a lot of successful "indie" bands that are super successful, mainly because of their rabid fanbases that go to their live shows, but only rap/pop is truly popular.

Going to popular indie band shows is insanely fun, so I think these guys can make a living as long as live performance is a thing...and no other genre can do live performance like a rock band can. I can't even imagine how faggot a rap concert is.

tbf pretty much any indie show is fun to go to as long as it's a good band with dedicated fans--i remember years ago seeing some band that probably had at most 50k listens on one of their songs on spotify/youtube and there were only 100 people at the concert but everyone knew all of the lyrics to all of the songs and it was extremely gay and vibrant

True.

I can’t even imagine having my “mind melted” at a rap or pop show like you can at a guitar driven live show. Maybe at some dj show with sick songs and an insane light/stage setup it’s possible, but rare

Yes i think so because live performance is the only way to make $ in music these days. 1-man producer type musicians (ie guy standing alone on stage surrounded by a bunch of electronics) need to license the hell out of their music to make a living. Only a very few select guys make it big that way (see Moby & Avicii). Everyone else needs to learn how to play an instrument or dance around the stage like a stripper.

i'd be very surprised. the production capabilities of a macbook, a midi controller, and $1000 of software are so incredible these days that i think the next generation of musicians will all be immersed in electronic music production. you can make guitar music that way, too, of course, but it will be seen as outdated and limited. which it is. i love guitar rock music but it's like listening to jazz in the 60s. it's old hat.

and to counterpoint the guy above, it's almost impossible to make money playing gigs these days. everyone expects and receives free content. hiring a band, renting a rehearsal space, and hauling a bunch of gear around is fucking expensive. one guy with a laptop is not.

fair argument, but i think bach would have drag and dropped bleep bloops in a far more incredible fashion than your average suburban EDM/trap "producer". ease of use and availability have resulted in an explosion of mediocre shit, but that's because most people are mediocre, more of them are making music, and the barriers to publishing are gone. any kid growing up today seriously studying music theory, piano, and production will have virtually unlimited compositional possibilities.

It will enjoy a resurgence in popularity in about 50 years. The same way swing music had that blip of resurgence thanks to hipsters in the 1990s. i.e., it is basically a niche of a niche market now.
