Here are the benefits: (1) You can change/cancel for free. This is huge. Hungover and want to push your flight 3 hours? Cool bro. Want to stay an extra day? Go for it. Want to cancel your trip completely? No fees. Idiot not answering your questions at a deposition? Push that Southwest flight back several hours through your Assistant. You can also book travel 6+ months out on the off chance you think you MIGHT want to go to football game, homecoming, NCAA tourney, etc. I do this constantly. I recognize that priority members might have the same type of benefits for other airlines, but 90% of travelers don't fly enough to get those statuses.
(2) Their seats aren't as bad as coach on American / Delta in my experience. I'm fairly tall, but a broad shouldered guy, so coach in American/Delta kills me whenever I have had to do it (I try to avoid it now). Southwest, while not ideal, isn't bad and I am fine with it. It isn't American/Delta first class, but it is way better than Coach. In full disclosure, most of my SW flights tend to be 2 hours or less.
(3) Cheaper. Speaks for itself.
(4) Customer Service/Competency. Seem to be way better with resolving issues and, in my experience, are almost NEVER delayed. I can't tell you how many times Delta/American are delayed and/or canceled. It could just be the airports I frequent though and I am not naive to think this is universal.
(5) The Companion Pass is awesome if you get it (it is much harder to get than it was a few years ago now).
With that being said, if you tend to fly first class constantly then you will be disappointed with Southwest. It is not first class level. |

Legs crushed - You are like 2 inches taller than me, but I think you will be fine. Can you handle coach in American or Delta? Its better. It is a step down from the room in first class. I flew first class constantly for like 3 months at one point and it took a bit of adjustment going back to SW. I literally can't fly coach in American/Delta now. Get an exit seat if you can. |

I generally hate southwest but it’s good for flying around Texas/Louisiana since there are often flights every hour on the hour and you can change them easily. |
