Your entertainment was TV, stereo, video games (in house or at the arcade) and obviously there was not enough of that to take up the whole day, so you would just shoot the shit with friends, play sports (I played whiffle ball almost every day one summer), read, whatever. Now you have constant "entertainment" in the palm of your hand. There was an article in the Atlantic about how iphones have changed teens today. They actually have less sex, go out less often, get into less car accidents. But they basically have the maturity of 10 year-olds. |

The Kazaa to Winamp music routine was fucking amazing. We could play power hour set to a Winamp playlist. Girls would come by your dorm room and leave a note on your dry erase board. You would stagger back to your computer at 2am (if alone) and start carpet bombing chicks on AIM to get one to come over with mixed results. No uber so you actually walked everywhere in packs which helped get the energy turned up en route to house parties or the bar.
Got next level hazed at the frat house because nobody was worried about photographic or video evidence. Never went to class and half the profs still didn't use email - and if they did; you could pull the whole "email without the attachment" routine and buy yourself a day on a term paper.
The best feeling on earth was throwing an AIM out there to the hot girl on the fourth floor of the dorm when your roommate left to go somewhere and having her come down to your room. Two knocks at the door and there she is with a white tank top (over the newish fake spring break is in one week base tan) and black terry cloth pants, sly grin, twirling her school ID card and dorm room key lanyard around her finger as she strolls into your dorm room.
Facebook came out towards the tail end of college for me. In our time, a hot chick might go undiscovered for years if you didn't have classes with her or if she wasn't in a sorority you partied with or whatever. That was always a 180 moment when you would walk into class and see some hottie that was previously unknown to you and your bros and then get her to start coming to the frat or whatever. You were celebrated like Christopher Columbus.
