The average republican is a conservahero who takes working for the people seriously. He pulls biglaw hours and just crashes on his couch and starts again the next day. He has no need or really desire for an apartment and it would just introduce a pointless commute. So long as he can send his suits to be dry cleaned, get food from the dining hall, shower somewhere, etc. he has everything he needs.

The average democrat is there to live large on the government bucks and spends as little time as possible making policy or working for the people. Even in the democrat-tilted media landscape, though, there is some dim awareness that they look like shit next to hard-working republicans who are literally sleeping in their office. They are therefore trying to reframe their laziness as an "ethics" issue which the media will buy uncritically.
