it also has absolutely no sense of humor outside the one goofy edgar allen poe impersonator
it doesn't help that william gibson style cyberpunk was kinda done here even when the book was written like 15 years ago, its a vision of the future from the 80's so the visual style of the show looks dated and derivative |

i started watching the 2nd ep of altered carbon but had to stop. there's no narrative explanation for why the world is the way it is, which is fine, but there's also no thematic connection. it's just pastiche. badass spec ops loner detective badass mercenary revolutionary badass. sinister old rich guy with his office full of ancient curios. lots of tatted up punks fucking each other. just a bunch of random odds and ends. |
