I'm in a boutique where PPP are ~1 mil. Non-equity partners are making around 550k, but they have to buy in (around 150K), pay for health insurance, and no 401k matching.

An in-house gig I'm interviewing for is closer to home, no billables, 9-5, health bennies, 401k match, and 225K salary.

Seems fairly comparable if you ask me

The drop from 385K to 225K is going to kill me, though, but I'm looking forward to the reduced workload

They have to set aside $ in case they do make equity partner. The whole arrangement seems messed up. It’s like hey, you probably won’t have the cash to buy in later so we’ll just take it from you now. Lol. They do give you 5 years to pay in. It’s a brilliant way to get more work out people. Associates work hard at the chance to make partner (non equity) then the clock gets reset and non equities have to work even harder to bec equity partners. It’s a 13-15 yr plan.

sure.

going in-house is kind of a dead-end growth wise. if you're okay with that, then it can be the right choice.
