"Armpit," formerly a star at Lake Clifton Eastern High School in Baltimore, is the team's star center. He picked up his unusual nickname from his distinctive habit of refusing to wear deodorant on game days. He led the America East Conference in blocks this year with 1.8 a game, and averaged 3 offensive rebounds per game. With UVA's suffocating defense, Armpit's offensive rebounding skills will be critical for getting UMBC second chances that will keep them in the game.

"Blanket," in contrast, is the team's best shooter, hailing from Dunbar High School. With UVA's stout defense, UMBC will need to gamble on many three-point shots, and Blanket will be their best bet to make them, with a .440 shooting percentage from outside the arc.

"We know the odds are against us," Bowie told ESPN. "But if anybody is going to smash the glass table, why not us?"
