Doesn't have to be the nicest, just the one you most enjoy returning to. Hotel and where it's located.

Hell yes. Beautiful place. It's on a bay full of coral and sea life. You can paddleboard or kayak around all day in super calm water. The main beach strip in Tulum is like a 5 minute cab ride away, which is no big deal at all.

I stayed in a waterfront suite. I seem to remember the price being somewhere around $500 per night. Beautiful room. The rest of the trip will be cheap. Food, drinks and cab rides are cheap as hell in Tulum.

I was sent some LJL scam attempted time share sales thing where the Westin in Cancun will give me like 3 nights for $249 total, so I figured i'd spend T/W/R there, then drive down to Tulum and stay somewhere nice for F/S. This looks like a solid move.

tied for second place: all the hotels that are attached by tunnels or skywalks to other hotels and/or underground shopping malls

in ATL there's like a complex of three hotels connected to each other

and in a lot of far northern cities like in Minnesota or Montreal hotels can be connected to VAST networks of buildings that you can walk between using tunnels/skywalks and never have to go outside

The skyways are a mixed bag. They are certainly a convenience once you know them, but they are difficult to navigate as a tourist or newcomer. Furthermore, there is a real absence of street-level retail, which makes the downtown feel more empty and sterile than it actually is.

I remember being a little kid and my parents took me to Rochester, MN for the first time. It was my first experience with a northern skyway system. I was amazed.

Of course I never went outside - it was the winter in Minnesota. I'm sure outside was a desolate hellscape.

I hear Des Moines is taking out its skyways in an effort to revitalize its streets.

it’s one of maybe 3 or 4 hotels where I actually look forward to and enjoy the hotel, rather than it just being a place to sleep until I get to go home again

perfect Lutyens architecture, generous and airy inside, marble everywhere but for legit comfort not for show (and so air cooled not blasted with shitty aircon), great little suites that I’d actually live in as a small apartment, great staff, great grounds, great restaurants, little oasis in Delhi (which is a shithole; interesting shithole, but still a shithole), by far the nicest hotel in Delhi

I’m fond of the Taj Mahal Palace in Bombay too

The Andaz in Tokyo was pretty great. The lobby is on the top floor and it has sick views. Rooms are new and huge by Tokyo (or even NYC) standards.

Also like the Carlton in Cannes and Negresco in Nice. Awesome light and beautiful old buildings.

It's new. In Minato, which is a bit businessy, but a 5 min walk from Ginza and close to Shibuya. It has a sick pool that looks out over the city.

I actually prefer the Grand Hyatt to the Park due to better location and the rooms being close to a wash. I am curious about the new Aman Tokyo.

Doesn't seem that bad - like $400-500 a night based on tripadvisor. Looking at nightly rates for a week in April, Andaz is $721, Park Hyatt is $791, Conrad is $850, Mandarin is $981, Peninsula is $1,071, Ritz is $1,635 (LOL holy shit).

none. i was there for work. the only worthwhile thing to do around bangalore is to actually take a weekend trip to mysore and check out the palace there. or hampi. other than that BLR is kind of what you say - a poor man's silicon valley full of boring glass buildings

the only two indian cities worth checking out are - delhi (for its history, monuments) and mumbai (nightlife, shopping, food etc). every other city is only worth visiting for work or as a starting point to explore surrounding regions

I like bangalore as a city, it's nice and green and less of a hell hole then other Indian cities. Also a decent pub culture.

Calcutta is also worth visiting, I prefer it to Delhi.

What's so good about the Leela palace though? Never been but have a deal that will send me to BLR a few times this year, is it worth staying there? I usually do oberoi or jw marriott

i also love the oberoi and have stayed there multiple times. its much more cozy and colonial style than leela which is much larger and goes for the luxe indian palace style architecture /service. so depends on what you are looking for i guess. u cant go wrong with either one but i prefer Leela because it has lot more amenities. for ex. leela fine dining pwns Oberoi - more options and significantly better cuisine

lol @ staying at JW. Just do Leela/Oberoi or Taj West End which is very unique and situated inside its own garden with cottage style rooms (not as convenient or luxe as oberoi/leela though)
