He was as good as Mike Trout before the steroids. After steroids he was a hitting freak such that it looked like he was playing a different game than anyone else.

For reference, here is a typical Trout statline

.310 BA, 33 home runs, .440 OBP, .570 slugging

Here is Bonds at his peak:

.350 BA, 50 home runs, .560 OBP, .800 slugging

--So the difference between peak Bonds and Trout is the difference between Trout and an average MLBer

Some more crazy stats.

No one other than Bonds since Ted Williams (50+ years). has had an OBP of greater than .500. Bonds did it 4 times, and had 1 time above 0.600.

Bonds has the 5 highest slugging percentages in a season. He leads with .8634. Babe Ruth is 6th with .7722. For reference, Mike Trout is number 163.

I saw an away game with bonds in his prime and it was fucking exhilarating. like nothing else i've experienced as a sports spectator. the crowd went fucking insane every time he was up to bat. people screamed their lungs out and threw fake syringes and shit. Bonds hit 2 dingers that day. people killed each other to try and catch the hr balls.

At his roid peak, managers would rather intentionally walk him with the bases loaded, walking in a run, rather than risk him hitting a hr. Which he pretty much would do in that situation.

It's happened one other time in the modern era to Josh Hamilton and is very situation specific, i.e., late in the game, up by two.

Better bat speed, hand-eye coordination and visual perception than anyone who has ever played the game. When he added steroids to the mix he was literally unstoppable. Anything that wasn't six inches out of the strike zone would go out of the park.

LOL at him losing to Ken Caminiti and four other inferior players for MVP in 1996 while rocking a 9.7 WAR:

i am a SF giants fan and followed them closely from 2002 (missed his 70 hr season) to 2014ish

it was incredible. he was heads and shoulders better than any other hitter. teams were terrified of him and intentionally walked him more than entire teams combined. he was basically the only good hitter in the giants lineup (kent was ok for a while) and fans would talk about how he would need to be "protected" so they coudlnt just walk him

every time he came up y ou knew he was gonna do something. almost a done deal if he came up in a game winning situation (runners on base, score tied/close)

watch bonds vs gagne for a fun ass face off when gagne was the best reliever in the game:
