There are 30K firearm related deaths a year. 20K are suicides and most of the rest are homicides. Of those 10K homicides, the strong majority are in the same few "diverse" zip codes year after year and the overwhelming majority of the shooting is related to a relatively small number of criminals. Therefore, if you are serious about stopping gun homicides, then the form of "gun control" you need is stronger policing and an absolute commitment to a sentencing regime of 10-20-life or harsher (like the Florida law). I would be in absolute favor of this and the money to pay for it, but then libs would whine about "overpolicing disadvantaged communities" or whatever the fuck.
If, on the other hand, you merely want to posture then you should be doing what the democrats are doing.

florida's murder rate is actually HIGHER than the national average, though:

whatever florida is doing to control crime is not working at all. they need to crack down MUCH harder on gun crimes.

This is fallacious reasoning.
I am quite confident that Florida has more laws on the books about hurricanes and flooding than Nebraska, yet more Floridians die from hurricanes and floods. This doesn't mean what Florida is doing is not working at all; it means that like everybody else they are legislating for the problem they have.
Similar illogic arises when libs say something like, "Gunowners are actually more likely to get shot!" That's likely true or at least true in many instances, but it's also the case that people with flood insurance are more likely to get flooded. It doesn't therefore follow that flood insurance increases your risk of flooding.
More importantly, though, "Florida" doesn't have a murder problem. Certain cities within Florida do: https://bloximages.newyork1.vip.townnews.com/wtxl.com/content/tncms/assets/v3/editorial/a/a6/aa64b082-a3a4-11e7-9dcd-ebcaf940742a/59cbd807123cc.pdf.pdf
(Crime stats sorted by descending population)
Jacksonville has 106 murders off 700K population. Miami had 55 off 450K. Orlando had 84 off 277K. After that, the murder rate drops off a cliff. That is, granted, an imperfect proxy for gun violence but it's pretty damn good. Therefore, want to reduce the gun violence/murder rate? Flood those three cities with cops and surveillance. What's more, it's very likely the case that those cities also don't have a problem with gun violence either, just a few neighborhoods do.
If libs are willing to get fucking serious about catching murderers, including murderers who use a gun, then I'm all in. This is relatively easy, because we know exactly what zip codes these murders are most likely to take place in, so in some sense we know where the murderers will be. And with London style surveillance/things caught on tape, there can be no argument over guilt or innocence-- we'll be highly confident that we're actually sending the right people to jail.
But, again, libs would never be on board with this because of the alleged racism of these policies. So instead the murder rate won't move a tick after law-abiding citizens need to pass their 17th background check and gangsters get guns from their cartel connections.
