This yale religious studies professor was a fundamentalist. Then, he determined that fundamentalism is insane and the bible is not literal. https://youtu.be/oU5z4AlxJ4U?t=2692

In order to continue practicing Christianity (including saying the nicaean creed), he separates Christian logic from real world logic. He says the jesus of Christianity is not the historical jesus - they are different things. So, in order to hold two separate logics, he becomes a postmodernist - someone who thinks otherwise incompatible methods of gaining knowledge can be squared because reasons.

If we use this guy as a case study, postmodernism is a transitional paradigm as everyone is brought up to speed into modernity. It allows lazy people like this guy to reconcile incompatible ways of thinking by simply holding on to them both, because the costs of eliminating one is too high.

Therefore my prediction is modernism will continue with slight variation for many more decades as the postmodern band aide becomes less necessary.

it's because we're in the early stages of post-modernism, where the only recognizable landmarks are those "incompatabilities." as we grow more post-modern we will begin to investigate the dimension in which those incompatabilities can occur. post-modernism isn't anything more than dimensional physics or math in that sense

have you read milbank et al? that's what i would call edging more towards the next stage of post-modernism. what does the logic of a world in which those two logics can make logical sense "do" to those two seperate logics in the "lesser" world in which they are incompatible. according to them it pushes our world in a more fundamentalist direction

I've listened to milbank and was troubled by what I heard, which was precisely that we can somehow become orthodox fully cognizant that we lack foundations but are somehow sill willing to proceed.

and i think their answer is that it is in action and not in thinking that being is founded. its object oriented orieontology under a theological guise. its a new dimension of philosophy and they clumsily apply it to some seemingly arbitrarily cultural (i mean "anglican?" come on) cliches to effect real action (debating zizek? gimme a *sniffle* *ahem* break) that is total political bullshit.

That's an interesting way to think about it, ie they aren't abandoning reason giving, they're just redefining what constitutes a reason.

EMIL CIORAN: "There are no arguments. Can anyone who has reached the limit bother with arguments, causes, effects, moral considerations, and so forth? Of course not. For such a person there are only unmotivated motives for living."

Exactly. Let's just abandon reason giving, reasons serve no purpose!
