Depends on how much you hate your job, for one.

NW to be comfortable getting pushed out at work with no other options, and ngaf about resume gaps? Even if you have a couple million, you'd still feel like a failure and it'd be a source of stress. In your spare time you will read xo poasts by poasters who make $600k. "What is wrong with me?" you'll ask, "this guy maeks $600k! me: poast!"

Chances are if you have a job, you'll still work like a maniac to keep it, if that's your personality type.

Nobody can just quit GC, it's like crack except without the highs. You will be made to feel ignomonious for not participating, this is why wagecucks have been known to die without cause, mere months into retirement. In order to be above the fray you have to be worth MILLIONS. It's not about the money per se because you can live in a trailer in Arknansas, poast like a KING for not much $. It's about keeping up with the JONESES and having HEALTH INSURANCE that you don't use, an overpriced Car, and a $500k tuition fund for your children.

I can't find an easy to use annuity calculator that includes COLA adjustments but I'd put maybe 1.5 mil into an immediate annuity and try to keep withdrawals front the rest at 2.5%. My earning record already would provide a respectable SS payment so that will help. I have simple needs and could easily do it in less than this. 3 mil presupposes the wife stays with me.

2.5 with a paid off & comfortable condo/house.

but i doubt i could just "retire" at that age

the xo NEET fantasy is not sustainable. at 2.5, i would devote myself to an artistic/business venture

good question. moonshots.

most likely work with someone technical to develop a business tool, and then try to pimp it out using salespeople. make another 2-3m sell it. try it again. maybe something in real estate similar to what i did before. that market is untapped and demand growing in my current city

in bigger cities like nyc/dc/sf there is something called "corporate housing" - this is essentially the "airbnb scam" business model, except you own the condo or work with the owner(s) of the property, rather than leveraging your rental.

so you put down a down payment on 3 condos, rent them out full time and instead of renting them for 1.5k each month with one year leases, you gross 4k a month through rentals on airbnb or similar sites.

i also had some luck with "real estate sevices." which is just anything related to real estate - you manage tenants, collect rent, send repair guys over, list properites and find tenants etc.

I would spend 12 hours a day playing with my dog, at least for the first year or so.

Given inflation, $10mm is minimum. Especially as the average 35 person today will probably live to 110.
