How did the Ashkenazi Jews become so successful?

They immigrated to America, and a few generations later they have become incredibly successful. This has to be one of the biggest deltas of any immigrant group, if not the biggest.
Why such a stark difference? Why couldn't they do better where they came from? Was America especially well-suited to their abilities? |
