Do you spend any time listening to music that is popular with 16-21 year olds?

I mean youth culture music. 21 Savage, Lil Yachty, Lil Xan. You can go a little older and more mainstream with shit like Post Malone, Cardi B, even borderline classic rock like Young Thug, who are at least heavily rotated on what remains of radio and the passive streaming equivalent.
And before you start screeching about rappers being some kind of niche genre that normal kids don't listen to, rap music and especially Trap and Soundcloud Rap presently dominate streaming services and the charts in commercial consumption. This is what white middle class high school kids listen to at parties and when they get baked in their cars.
These new genres of hip hop are the Heavy Metal/NuMetal/Alt Rock/Party Rap/Gangster Rap that was the edgy choice of suburban kids when you were young. Rock and traditional college 'alternative music' of most stripes has almost completely atrophied. Do you have any comprehension of current youth music? |
