Nah, it goes much further than that. A search for "reserve powers" should lead you down the right path.
One good example of this is the "King-Byng Affair," which involved the Canadian Parliament.
Of course, should the British monarch ever exercise these powers, it would almost certainly result in a constitutional crisis, which could easily conclude with the British monarchy being abolished.

Everyone loves the queen and nobody likes Charles. It's harder to justify a symbolic monarchy if the head doesn't have the respect or support of the people, there's a threat that people start questioning its value.
That said, all royals should be lined up against the wall and shot, it's an unbelievable stain on the British people that they put up with these leeches and actually give them deference
