Is there a cutoff in that group?
In some respects I find them pretty equivalent, though I personally could see arguments for some or all of the following being in a distinct tier: Chicago, Columbia, Penn, Duke, Dartmouth, Northwestern, Brown

As a CA-mo in the 90s, it wasn't a popular school. People would go east for the other ivies (over Berkeley/UCLA/USC for sure) but I don't remember a lot of people going to Cornell or even applying.
Also back then Chicago was not a place were top students went - very midrange guys (smart but not the overachiever Ivy or Berkeley type) would go there. |

I think money becomes an issue. If you live in Colorado and you're really smart and your parents make too much to get aid, then going to CU Boulder might make sense over paying a shitton for Emory or Notre Dame.
That said, I do think there is some tangible value to those other top 25 schools, but as you said you have to want that kind of a school. |

I went to a school mentioned above, and it actually ended up being cheaper than my state flagship because of financial aid (free money/grants, not loans), and my parents aren't poor, very MC. The top schools have yuge endowments (of which they could use more for scholarships if they weren't shelling out millions for "diversity" employees) |

A student with a 33-36 ACT or 1490-1600 SAT score and at least a 3.5 GPA will be selected as a Presidential Scholar and will receive $100,000 over four years ($25,000 per year). Students graduating with remaining scholarship semester(s) may use these monies toward graduate school and/or law school study at UA.
What percentage of students receive a merit-based scholarship offer if they meet the criteria listed? All students who meet the criteria will receive an automatic scholarship offer if the student has been admitted by the December 15 deadline. |
