probably. fade is easier to control with the longer clubs for decent players but the average dood hitting a "fade" is actually slicing the shit out of it regularly.

most of these slicemos come way over the top, losing power and often hitting it fat with irons and wedges

I guess neither shot is inherently better, but many pros do prefer to hit a draw, especially with mid/short irons. In reality play whatever shot you can hit most consistently, if it's a draw, hit that, if it's a fade, then hit that.

Most tour pros can hit either at will.

what the pga tour does isn't at all relevant to what most people should do, but distance isn't the main reason tour players hit draws with their irons.

I'm talking about controlling where you mishit the ball, especially in the wind.

Assuming you're a decent player and don't have major swing path issues, if you're set up to hit a draw and it doesn't draw, then you're hitting it straight. Mishits into the wind are also more accurate when playing a draw. Hit a slice into the wind and you're done here.

it sets you up better for lower flying/lower spin shots. I've also seen good players though who can play knockdown fades that rip through wind like it's not even there.

mishits generally work out better if you're playing a fade (ball lands more softly, don't have as much risk for violent screaming hooks, and it's easier to take one side out of play.) Draw is the "better" ball flight and swing, but until your breaking par golf is mainly about managing your fuckups and not about hitting perfect shots over and over.

Make sure you have a proper grip, it may be preventing you from squaring up at impact. You are also most likely over-swinging, focus on slowing down your tempo.

Your hands are getting too far away from your body, & your downswing is going from outside-in.

You want your backswing to be further inside, & explode from the inside out through the ball on the downswing.

What helped me most is not thinking about my hands during the swing. Just think about the big muscles of your body, particularly your shoulders.

everything changed for me once I figured out how the club path and angle of the face at impact cause the different ball flights.

If you imagine a line going straight through the ball to your target, assuming your club face is square at impact, you will slice it if your club path comes from the outside of that line to the inside after impact (this is what people mean when they say "coming over the top"). If I want to draw the ball or if things are starting to leak to the left, I always just picture hitting the inside half of the golf ball.

pretty what much i wrote 5 poasts above yours.

the correct golf swing is from the inside out.

most golfers get too handsy and have a backswing too far away from their body. then their downswing goes outside-in, they cut across the ball, and get the horrible slice spin.

i wouldn't say i focus on hitting the inside half of the ball, though. i think that could also lead to left-right slice spin.

i focus on exploding from the inside out through the ball, so i try to hit the middle of the ball, but the club path gives the ball a right-left draw spin.

Ty Bros. Unfortunately I'm fairly aware of the reasons for a slice. It's just mentally knowing is different than being able to easily fix it. Some weird muscle memory shit is at work and then when you try to think about it other aspects of your swing can get fucked up. It's such an annoying problem to develop

Learn to bow your wrist on your down swing if you don't. It's a game changer.

You can't really hit it solid consistently unless you do this to an extent and every pro does it. Some more than others.

Get an impact snap trainer (https://impactsnap.com/). It had me hitting the ball significantly better after a handful of swings with it. I've played golf for 25 years, and this thing was more helpful than any lesson I've ever taken.

Also, OP, make sure you fully understand the ballflight laws. https://www.golftec.com/blog/2016/08/golf-ball-flight-laws/ Once you understand them, hit three quarter shots trying to work the ball in different directions. You need to experiment and gain some clubface control and learn what the different paths and face angles really feel like.

Whatever you do, don't mindlessly beat balls with the same crappy swing over and over. You're just wasting time and money and getting further from the goal.
