Someone asked me for a constructive proposal in the other thread and I didnt want it getting lost in a subthread wasteland.
Proposal: teach kids in school (and adults via PSAs) that weight loss or gain is determined by calories in minus calories out. To lose weight you must produce a sustained caloric deficit.
(Miss me with your dumb nitpicking and corrections like thermic effect of food, thanks.)
Obviously this won’t be sufficient but I think it’s a necessary starting point. It amazes me how many people don’t understand this simple truth and getting dragged into ineffective or outright dangerous weight loss schemes as a consequence (e.g. diet pills).
You even see posters here bragged about losing 10 pounds in 2 weeks by starving themselves, not realize it’s mathematically impossible for that all to be tissue and that they in fact are just dehydrated.
Again: far from a complete solution, but you’re rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic unless this is done.
