GC has run a fantastic PR campaign against unions.

and although TMF has tried to recast his negative comments about unions as stemming from their violent activity (which, again, is nil compared to what it was back in the day) it's pretty obvious that he just has a visceral negative reaction to labor unions generally - not just those that employ thug tactics or engage in corruption (again, a VERY small percentage).

you are in-house at a company, right? i would venture a guess that you and your coworkers make "more or less standardized amounts." that is what you seem to be criticizing in your post. (incidentally, in the bargaining units i have in "intellectual" jobs, such as journalism and medicine, the employer generally has a clause allowing it to grant additional "merit" pay increases beyond what is called for in the CBA).

would you make more or have cheaper benefits if you had a union? nobody can say - all depends on whether your employer bargained hard and whether you and your coworkers were willing to use your leverage to get the employer to agree to your demands.
