Trusts like that are based on ownership of perpetual or time defined interests in wells. Eventually it is just a NAV calculation and a YTM calculation yo have to do when they collapse in price and you can make a decent bet on the future value of the reserves.

Also, in some super rare cases, the terms of the trust indenture specify a liquidation trigger event/threshold and those will cause the trust to self-terminate and distribute the $$$ from liquidation to shareholders.
