We could put a deep minefield on the border, costing much less than a fence and far more effective. The only downside I could see is that we might blast a few migratory animals, but maybe we could adjust the pressure setting to protect them.

We could use reaper drones to pick off anyone who makes it through the field.

Modern mines can have a built in timer so that they automatically deactivate after 10 years or whatever. But, let’s be honest, the only reason we’d need that land is if we conquered Mexico and the old border was no longer the border.
