Locate the deepest below-ground-level public library floor from a survey of available public library locations overlaid on a GIS system; pack a bag with your favorite philosophical treasure tomes (if there are items missing from your collection, you can supplement at your destination--after all, you are going to be at a library) and ample supply of pens, crayons, and writing paper; board a public bus toward this subterranean library floor; stop en route at a local Whole Foods and pick up an 8" round cream-cheese frosted--never buttercream--red velvet cake, which you'll ask the baker to inscribe with "Life of the Mind." Reboard the bus; arrive at the library, proceed to the lowest floor. Turn off as many of the overhead lights as possible without drawing undue attention. Remove the cake and place it beside your working area. Begin your project: for your birthday, you'll be composing a new work of monumental philosophy--metaphysics, logic, epistemology, axiology, you pick. This is your current view on life, screedscrawled across a thousand pages. Don't stop for anything don't stop to edit or amend or crossreference just write page after page after page, write for as long as possible without interruption other than to reference other philosophical works or eat a piece of cake, write with joy you writerly soul just write! Don't shower. Don't urinate. Don't talk. Don't look around and keep the papers close others are trying to steal your work and your thoughts but this is your birthday and your triumph. Keep doing this until you pass out from exhausation, ideally forty-eight to seventy-two hours from the time you arrived in the dustcaked stacks of this scholarly catacomb. Sleep in a puddle of your own drool and red velvet crumbs, your hand guardedly on top of the manuscript you've composed. When you wake, go to the bathroom to clean up as best you can, wash the stains from your pants, a splash of hand sanatizer under each arm, a quick run of the hand through your frazzled hair--make sure you've kept the manuscript with you. Head out into the painful light of day and make a beeline toward 61 West 62d Street: Columbia University Press. You've created something intrinsic and glorious, tapped a bit of the godhead and spilled it out onto paper, all in celebration of your birth into this world and that fleeting thing you call existence, never mind that you'll be gone in a fleaspeck of time, six years from now, an untended aneursym of the brain, but this is lasting, this is real, and the world must know. Happy Birthday to me? No, Happy Birthday to the World: Suddenly, with this publication, it's going to be Year One all over again.

1. If you live near family, have dinner with family, gf/wife and best friend. Then go out after.
2. If you don't live near family, have dinner w gf/wife and or bros then go out drinking with bros. I used to have a party in a dive bar because it's easy for everyone, they're usually willing to hook up drink specials if you're bringing people in and you can take the place over and do whatever you want plus drinks are cheap.
3. Go on a long weekend bro party trip or if you're more laid back somewhere nice with wife/gf.
